BOOKS OF THE MONTH: Tiffany Haddish & Charlamagne Tha God

The two books that I read for the month of July was “The Last Black Unicorn” by Tiffany Haddish and “Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes To Those Who Create It” by Charlamagne Tha God. Both books were filled with the authors life lessons in how they came to be who they are today. Both books are New York Times Best Sellers, congrats to them.

In The last Black Unicorn, Tiffany talks about her struggles growing up in a dysfunctional household with a mother with mental issues and a father that left her at a very young age to go back to his native country and at a young age Tiffany had to be responsible for her younger siblings being that she is the oldest. She talks about going threw the foster care system fending for herself and in her early young adult years she talks about being naive with men in different relationships and how she married the same man twice who physical abused her. She touches on a list of not so great choices but always bouncing back. Tiffany puts a comedic touch on telling her stories of course but each chapter to her stories had a lesson within them and showed her what her true calling was and for her that was becoming a comedian. Her stories are encouraging, some of them are out right funny but a testament on not giving up no matter your circumstances. (Sidenote: the audio version of the book is the best because Tiffany herself is narrating it, she is funny)

In Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes To Those Who Create It, Charlamagne breaks down 8 principals (not chapters) that help shaped his life. Over the years Charlamagne has got the reputation of a not so nice jokester being a big mouth controversial radio personality but in his book he talks about the process it took to overcome his past and create opportunities for himself to become a household name, an entrepreneur, a successful radio personality and now Author. Charlamagne talks about his humble beginnings in South Carolina, a troubling past in his young adult years filled with crime and bad choices. Charlamagne gives his take on how anyone can have success if they truly believe and want change for themselves, his principles are great insights on how to do just that even in the mist of what looks like failure.
